What to Expect from Hypnotherapy

What to Expect from Hypnotherapy

If you’ve never experienced hypnotherapy before, it’s natural to have questions, or a few misconceptions picked up from TV or stage shows. Here’s an honest overview of what a session actually involves.

What Happens During a Session

During a session, I guide you into a deeply relaxed state. You remain aware and in control throughout. Hypnotherapy is not about losing consciousness, being “put under,” or having someone else take over your mind.

In this relaxed state, the subconscious mind becomes more open and accessible. Rather than working against habits and patterns through conscious effort and willpower alone, hypnotherapy works to address those patterns at a deeper level.

People experience hypnosis differently. Some remember everything clearly, others drift in and out of awareness. Both experiences are completely normal and neither affects how the session works.

Online or In-Person Sessions

Sessions are available in person at my practice in Hervey Bay, or online via secure video for clients across Australia. Both formats follow the same approach. The right choice simply comes down to your preference and circumstances.

What to Know Before You Start

Most people can experience hypnosis to some degree, though individual experiences vary. If you’ve tried hypnotherapy before and felt it didn’t work for you, it may simply be that the induction style wasn’t the right fit. I’m trained in multiple induction approaches and take time to find what works best for each person.

How many sessions you’ll need varies depending on what you’re working through. I’ll discuss this with you during your initial enquiry and be straightforward about what to expect.

Everything discussed in sessions is completely confidential. I take privacy seriously and understand how important discretion is when reaching out for support with something personal. As with all registered therapy, confidentiality has limits only in cases where there is a serious risk of harm. This is standard professional and legal practice across all therapeutic services.

Not Sure Which Approach Is Right for You?

If you’re unsure whether hypnotherapy, EMDR, or a combination of both might suit your situation, I’m happy to talk it through. The first step is simply a conversation, no pressure and no commitment required.
